If Wagner had heard Birgit Nilsson sing Isolde’s Liebestod (Death for love), he wouldn’t have allowed any other soprano to sing it. I’m really certain of this, it doesn’t matter how long ago she sung it, how many other great singers do great versions of this piece today… she’s THE ONE. The closest to perfection that we can get. Her legato, those long phrases, her powerful high notes, her passion, rhythmic and pitch precision, dynamic resources, diction… She just makes me believe that she’s actually entering the new dimension where life and death don’t have any meaning at all, because all that matters is LOVE.

Si Wagner hubiese oído cantar a Birgit Nilsson el Liebestod (Muerte por amor) de Isolda, no habría permitido a ninguna otra soprano cantarlo. Estoy convencido de ello, no importa el tiempo que ha pasado desde que lo cantó, ni cuántas otras grandes cantantes hayan hecho grandes versiones de esta obra hoy… Ella es LA MEJOR. Lo más que nos podemos acercar a la perfección. Su legato, esas frases largas, sus potentes agudos, su pasión, precisión rítmica y afinación, recursos dinámicos, dicción… Ella realmente me hace creer que se está transfigurando, entrando en esa nueva dimensión donde vida y muerte no significan nada, porque lo único que importa es el AMOR.

Mi versión favorita de mi pieza favorita de Wagner. Abre bien el corazón y disfruta!
