Porque son mi generación, las que jugaban “conmigo” de joven; porque siempre se les dejará de segundo plato por ser mujeres; porque el suyo no es el deporte rey y ni la décima parte de los que saben qué pasó en Maracaná se enterará de que ellas han triunfado; porque son grandes, además de altas, y han demostrado una casta tremenda; porque sí; porque se lo merecen: ENHORABUENA CHICAS, HACÉIS QUE MUCHOS ESPAÑOLES NOS SINTAMOS ORGULLOSOS CON VOSOTRAS Y CELEBREMOS VUESTRO TRIUNFO. Y enhorabuena a la FEB también, por este gran trabajo de años.

Because they’re my generation, the ones who played “with me” when I was younger; because they’ll always be left apart for the sake of being women; because theirs isn’t the sport’s king, and not even one tenth of those who know what happened in Maracaná will even hear about their triumph; because they’re great, further to tall, and they’ve demonstrated their class; just because; because they’ve earned it: CONGRATULATIONS, GIRLS, YOU MAKE MANY SPANIARDS FEEL PROUD WITH YOU AND CELEBRATE YOUR VICTORY. And congrats to the Spanish Basketball Federation too, for this years-long work.
